Hottub technical questions

If you own a spa or hot tub and are having a technical hitch why not challenge the experience and knowhow of our spa doctor team.  If we don’t know the answer to your hot tub issue immediately we generally know a man (or woman) who does, so leave a comment here and we will get straight onto it for you.

    i purchased a hot tub 3 years ago from a company who declared themselves bankrupt and then set themselves up again as a different company, the spa is leaking ,i think from a jet housing, can you recommend any repairers in the Essex or surrounding areas, i am struggling to find somebody,thank-you

    Your supplier unfortunately went into liquidation last year as you say, so we suggest that you contact a couple of companies for advice and quotations. The first is East Essex Pool Care who are local to you at:

    Hi there,

    I have a problem that’s leaving me confused. Since new my hottub (complete with factory installed ozonator) has never produced bubbles from the ozonator. The dealer who supplied it has tried changing all sorts of new bits, none of which has made any difference. He now tells me that ozonators can be working properly without producing any visible bubbles, and I should stop worrying. Every other dealer, hot tub expert etc I contact tells me that if a gas is passed through water it MUST produce visible bubbles. I don’t know what to do. Can you help?

    Hi

    I have a Spaform Atlantis and have in the past had a problem with the pump1 starting. This was rectified by fitting a new motor start capacitor. I couldn’t get the exact value but a close match seemed to solve the problem and after fitting all worked perfectly. Due to a recent house move the tub has been out of action recently. I have just powered it up and all seemed ok except now the 2nd cycle of pump1 shuts down after only a few mins. Any ideas what could cause this?

    Do you mean the 2nd filter cycle shuts down after 2 mins or do you mean it is a 2 stage pump and it shuts down after being on for 2 mins on full power?

    Hi I have a Canadian Spa, it was running fine before I did a water change. When I refilled it, I did not fill via filter location. Jets 1 works fine (two stage). Jets 2 tries to start (small amount of water comes out of jets before stopping. I thought I might have caused an airlock so emptied the spa and refilled via filter location but the same is still happening. Any suggestions?

    Hi Trevor
    Does the pump sound like it is pumping water or is it just humming. If it is just humming it is likely to be the capacitor that has blown which is preventing the pump from getting started.

    If is trying to pump water then it is more likely to be a blockage or a problem with the wet end of the pump.

    Nick, thank you for responding. The pump starts for about 4-6 seconds (i.e. a bit of water comes out), then hums before stopping. I noticed it was getting quite hot so I have disconnected it from the controller. Could it be an air lock or something more? It is still under warrenty, but if they come out and it is just an air block I will get charged. Thanks again.

    Hi Trevor
    The pump may have a bleed valve on the side of it which you can also use to drain the pump if you emptying the spa in winter to prevent freezing of water inside the pump. Try loosening the valve with the pump running to see if any air bleeds out. This should answer your question re air locks but it sounds unlikely to me.

    Hi, I left the water in my tub over the winter when it failed and have only recently got it fixed. it all runs fine but when you turn on the blowers or jets there are a number of small leaks around the jet hoses and tubing joints. Is this easily fixed by a diy type compound or do I need a specialist to visit? Its a 4 yr old Aegean 2200 spa

    I wouldn’t recommend a heath robinson fix as this may cause problems in future if you ever have to disassemble the joints for any reason. Contact Aegean at www.tubstore.com to find out what they recommend.

    Hi, my hot tub came from Canada about 18months ago, but about three months ago, it stopped and wont turn on -with no power to the control panel? I have used a volt meter and tracked where the supply stops. It has a contactor (which I presume is to assist to start pumps or motors) There is power in but the circuit does not close to give power out. I am sure there must be a simple answer, I have changed the coil to no effect. Any ideas? Thanks

    Hi, I have a canadian ? tub. It has been great but a few months ago just stopped. No power to control panel etc. I have used voltmeter and traced where power stops. It has a contactor-I presume to start pumps - this has power in but none out as contact isnt made. I have changed coil to no avail. It has various power leads in and one that goes elsewhere. Do you think its something else not triggering this device? Thanks for any help

    What is make and model of your hot tub? Where did you buy it from and have you contacted your retailer? Most hot tubs on the market come with 2 years warranty cover on electronics so if so this will be covered.

    It is difficult to diagnose without knowing more details about the tub and the type of controls used. What does it say on the front of the load box?

    Hi, sorry for delay. The spa is a “Wizard” Ive never heard of them and cant find any info on the web. I bought it from the internet. It was fine until it just stopped one day. It is getting power but where it splits from the contactor no power gets through. As I said I think the contactor is there to assist starting heater/pumps but I think it needs to close the circuit to do this but I dont think it is doing it - no power getting to control panel. Whats the load box? I may find what you want. Any engineers in Surrey you can recommend? Thanks.

    I have had my hot tub for just 3 years and am having a problem with the jets coming loose and floating. I am the only one using the tub and I don’t open and close them. Why would they be coming off?

    Hi, I have a Spa form Rio Bravo hot tub that is 4yrs old and 12 of the grey storm jet covers have fallen off. I cannot get them to fit back into their housings and stay on. they do not appear broken, any advice would be appreciated?

    This is a Certikin branded spa and there have apparently been some issues with these particular jets. The jet design has now been changed to resolve the issue. For more information and/or replacement jets speak to Darren Waters at Spafix.

    i have fl on the control pad put new filters in but have not cured it tub is still working but when it turns off it goes back to the FL symbol then it wont switch back on untill its ready please can you give some advice as to what it could be thankyou
